Bailey Chiristian Church is a non-denominational church which began March 27, 1879. We moved into our current facilities April 19, 1959. Since then there have been numerous changes (e.g., adding on a gym and offices, adding a second service, moving services to the gym, and bringing on additional staff, etc.).
We are associated with a fellowship of churches known as the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. Although each church makes its own decisions locally, we do enjoy fellowship and working together to help advance Christ’s Kingdom. There are currently about 5,500 churches in this fellowship in the United States.
The Christian Chuches/Churches of Christ find their roots in an American unity movement from the early 1800's known as the Restoration Movement. The vision behind this movement was for the church to realize and live out Jesus' prayer in John 17 that His followers would be united ("one") as He and the Father are. In so doing, Jesus says the world will see and believe that God sent Him to love and save us.
Our hope at Bailey is to continue to live out this vision of reaching out to a world lost in darkness with the light of Christ by being unified in the truth of Jesus. For this reason, we don't go by any other name, such as Baptist, Methodist, or Catholic. We simply go by the name, Christian. However, we do not believe we are the only Christians, as if we have all the answers and other churches do not. Rather we enjoy working together with, fellowshipping with and learning from brothers and sisters from other churches and denominations. Together, not separtely, we will be able to live out Jesus' vision of unifying so that the whole world will know. We'd love for you to join us in this amazing vision to turn the world upside down with God's love!
