Audio/Visual Ministry

Mission: To enhance corporate worship by working in the sound booth on
Sunday Morning.

Description: We have one person running the sound board, one person
running the computer. We teach people not to be intimidated by all the buttons and
slide levers on the board because it is a lot easier than it appears. It is a great
pleasure to be involved in this ministry on Sundays because it is an area in which
you can be involved in corporate worship and serve at the same time.

Ministry team leaders: Nick Koogler (audio) & Ray Vargo (visual)

Brunch Fellowship Ministry

Mission: To encourage the congregation to become more involved in the mission of the
church and to create an atmosphere where interaction & fellowship can happen.

Description: We serve refreshments during the fellowship time between the first
service and Sunday school.  We’d love to have you join us either in serving on
Sunday morning or providing goodies for everyone to enjoy.

Ministry team leader: Bill McDonald

Church Media Library Ministry

Mission: To provide & promote media resources to help people at BCC grow in their
relationship with Christ and provide them with the resources to introduce others to
Christ.

Description: You are welcome to stop by our church media library (located upstairs
in the first room east of the stairwell) any Sunday morning or during the week when
the church is open.  If you love books, organizing things or just have a passion for
helping people have resources available for a deeper walk with Christ, this is the
ministry for you.

Ministry team leader: Denise Whitney

Finance/Stewardship Ministry

Mission: To provide oversight, accountability & guidance for the finances of BCC in
order to fulfill our overall mission.

Description: We assist the staff, elders & ministry team leaders in
developing a budget. We also provide weekly accounting of income by
counting offerings & tracking giving through offering envelopes for
individual tax purposes.

Ministry team leader:  Lisa Vazquez

Funeral Ministry

Mission: To provide an opportunity for grieving families & friends
following a funeral to share with & comfort one another by providing a
meal & a comfortable setting.

Description: When there is a loss of a “loved one” in the area, Daren
contacts us. The family is contacted to see if they would like a luncheon and about
how many people would be expected. Then the church family is contacted for help with
making food.  If you have a gift of hospitality and serving and would like to help
in this important ministry of compassion, make contact with the office or the
leaders listed below.

Ministry team leaders: Virginia Zimmerman & Linda Liscombe

Grounds Ministry/Property Maintenance Ministry

Mission: To allow people to serve God by, maintaining, improving and
beautifying the church grounds.

Description: This is a great ministry for those who would like to serve, but not
necessarily be seen. For the winter season safety is the main concern. It is very
important to have clean walks, drives and parking lots everyday, not just on Sunday.
For the summer appearance is the main concern. The lawns, trees, shrubs and flowers
must be attractive and welcoming to visitors and members.

Areas to serve:
WINTER-shovel & salt walks and organize snow plowing.
SUMMER-mowing & trimming lawns weekly, spring clean-up, fall clean-up,
trimming trees & shrubs, flowers, and beautification projects.

Ministry team leader:  Jeff VanderWeide

Hosting Ministry

Mission: To create a warm, welcoming atmosphere as people enter into the church
building. Our goal is to help guests feel welcome to the family and our members feel
loved.

Description: All that is needed is a warm smile, and firm handshake or hug and a
passion to welcome people entering for worship. Since we have only one opportunity
to make a good first impression, this is a vital ministry and outreach.  The task is
simple: Introduce yourself to first
time attendees and then introduce them to Maxine and Norine (the world’s best
hostesses!)who give them a welcome packet. They are asked to fill out the visitor
card and drop it in the offering plate. With the information from the card three
contacts are made during the week.

Ministry team leaders: Shawn & Angie Braman

Housekeeping Ministry

Mission: To keep the church facilities clean, ready and inviting for ongoing ministry.

Description: If you like to clean or have skills in fixing things, this might just
be the ministry for you.  With a facility that is used almost every day of the week,
there are always lots of areas that need attention.  Contact Lu May or the church
office if you’d like to know more.

Ministry team leader: Lu May

Men’s Ministry (Iron Men)

Mission: To call the men of BCC to mature in their relationship with Jesus Christ by
studying God’s word, discussing the implications, and praying for one another.  Our
theme verse is, “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs
27:17)

Description: Our goal is the sharpening and honing of our skills as a man of God and
a man your wife, children, or co-workers will respect and possibly even look to for
strength and courage in times of need.  During the school year we meet the first
Saturday of every month for an “accountability breakfast” from 7:00-8:15am here at
the church.  In the summer we meet weekly at Dave VanderZanden’s pond on Wednesdays
from 7:00-8:30pm.  And in the winter we have a men’s retreat at Camp Henry in
Newaygo that gives us an opportunity to get away, reflect and wrestle with what it
means to be a man of God.  If you have a passion for men’s ministry or you simply
want to grow as a man of God, then feel free to join us at any of our meetings
throughout the year.

Ministry team leader:  Daren Penwell

Women’s Ministry

Mission: To bring women together in a safe environment in which deeper relationships
can develop.  Our goal is to call each other to become the woman, wife, mother and
friend that God has called us to be.

Description: Through our monthly Friday evening get-togethers, our Spring Hill
retreats (Spring and Fall), and our summer women’s study deeper relationships are
built with one another and God.  In building trust with one another, we believe that
opportunities for open sharing can happen and women here at BCC will feel free to be
who God has made them to be.

Ministry team leaders: Karen VanderZanden & Kelly Murphy

Worship Ministry

Mission: To declare God’s worth within a diverse church family,
understanding that our method of corporate worship will illustrate our
relationship with God and each other.

Description: The worship ministry is made up of people with diverse
musical talents who work together to provide a wide variety of music
ministry to our congregation, including Sunday worship, special community events,
Christmas musicals, and other various services.  If you are interested in being part
of this ministry team, have musical talent and a passion to worship God and lead
others in worship, see Nate after a Sunday service.

Ministry team leader: Nate Rodriguez

VBS Ministry

Mission: To provide a fun and exciting summer Bible learning experience for children
of BCC and others in our community.  The goal is to both mature our own children and
reach out to those who may not have a church home.

Description: Summer Vacation Bible School for children 3 years of age
through 4th grade is a great way of teaching some major biblical life lessons in a
week-long format. Lots of fun, singing, crafts, snacks and lessons from God’s word.
VBS runs the end of July or first of August.  We always need lots of people for this
intense week of ministry.  If you love kids and want to share Jesus’ love with them,
then you’re just the person for this ministry!

Ministry team leaders: Lisa Penwell & Kim McDonald

Toddler Ministry

Mission: To minister to the needs of toddlers (2-3 year olds) and their families by
creating a safe, early experience with God’s family on Sunday mornings.

Description: Using age-appropriate materials, we create a warm and loving
environment in which toddlers can feel safe and cared for.  Since our desire is to
minister to the whole family, we know that parents need to feel confident that their
children are being well-cared for.  In our toddler ministry, they will be!  If you
have a heart for this age group and would like to minister to the next generation,
then this may just be your ministry

Ministry team leaders: Krista Frey & Amy Moore

Nursery Ministry

Description: Sunday morning nursery for newborns-2 year olds

Ministry team leaders: Amanda Hughes & Lisa Rau

Preschool Ministry

Mission: To minister to the needs of preschoolers and their families by creating a
safe early experience and teaching them basic messages from God’s word, such as
love, obedience and worship through storytelling, crafts and object lessons.

Description: With God’s direction and our wonderful teachers’ guidance our children
have a greater understanding and love for Jesus. There is nothing more rewarding
than to hear one of the children repeat a story or sing a song for their parents.
We want to help our children learn from their earliest years that God loves them,
and He wants them to love Him.

Ministry team leader:  Sally Wayner

Children's Church (Mustard Seeds)

Mission: To reach, love and train children for Jesus Christ through
storytelling, crafts and object lessons.

Description: We are using Hands-On Bible Curriculum. In each lesson the
kids participate in a variety of fun learning experiences that help them understand
one important biblical point a week. We meet upstairs the 1st, 2nd, and 4th (5th
also) Sundays of the month.  The 3rd Sunday of the month children are invited to
remain with their parents so they can experience worship along with you as a family.
We believe both are needed: times of learning at their level as well as worshipping
God with mature Christian adults.  We are encouraging the kids to bring their Bibles
with them so they can get familiarized with their own Bibles as we look up
Scriptures that relate to our lessons. If your child does not have a Bible, please
see contact the office.

Ministry team leader: Anna Lovett & Lisa Penwell

K-4th Grade Wednesday Night Youth Group (Faith Weaver Friends)

Mission: To introduce K-4th graders to Christ at their level in a fun and inviting way.

Description: Using age appropriate materials, crafts, learning activities, skits,
singing and lessons, we teach children the big ideas of the Bible.  We point them to
God and His Son, Jesus Christ.  Our hope is to plant seeds in these young hearts and
minds that will eventually develop into a deep faith in God that changes their lives
for eternity.  This is a great time of fun learning.  If you have a desire to plant
seeds of faith in young lives, then this is the ministry for you!

Ministry team leader: Lisa Penwell

Middle School Youth Group (Velocity)

Mission: To introduce Middle Schoolers to Christ and call them to grow in that
relationship.

Description: Jr. High is a tough age, because of this it is vital for
preteens to understand the importance of a relationship with God. We meet on
Wednesday nights for a time of Bible study and fellowship. Each student is in a
small group for accountability and prayer with their peers. Each group is led by an
adult, because we believe that if a student is going to become a mature Christian
adult, they must have relationships with mature Christian adults. We also take 3
trips during the school year. These trips are additional important tools for growth
in a Jr. Higher. We always need more adults to help form our future generation in
the image of Christ. If you are interested in joining this ministry, contact the church office.

Ministry team leader:

Sr. High Youth Group (Vine)

Mission: To introduce High Schoolers to Christ and call them to grow in that
relationship, helping move them toward mature Christian adulthood.

Description: Our Sr. High ministry provides Sunday School, Sunday Night youth group and Bible study, small group care, adult mentors, service opportunities, and in school ministry to Sr. High teens. Adults of all ages & with a wide array of gifts &
talents are always needed.

Ministry Team Leader: Jason Ross

Evangelism/Outreach Ministry

Mission: To introduce our community to a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Description: We organize periodic outreaches, from providing a meal for
those living in a local mobile home park, passing out water at a county fair, to
knocking on the doors of those new in our area to welcome them and invite them to
church. Our desire is to encourage one another to be willing to trust God by
stepping out of our comfort zones into where people live in the hopes of bringing
them to Christ.

Ministry team leader: Dave VanderZanden

Prayer Ministry

Mission: To promote prayer within our congregation.

Description: We believe that prayer is the lifeblood of a healthy ministry.  If what
is done is not done in God’s power, we are doomed to fail.  So, the prayer ministry
helps promote prayer within our congregation by organizing and encouraging members
to cover our church in prayer during the week, providing opportunities for people to
pray for members to pray during the services, offering Sunday School Classes on
prayer, and reading prayer-related books. As a team we will be
committed to interceding through prayer on behalf of our church and its members.  If
you have a passion for prayer and believe God really does listen to the prayers of
His people, we’d love to have you join us!

Ministry team leaders: Carmen Baldus & Lisa Penwell

Upward Basketball/Flag Football Ministry

Mission: To introduce children and their families to a friendship with Jesus and His
church through sports ministry.

Description: This ministry has become a great avenue for bringing families into the
life of the church here at BCC.  During the fall months we use flag football.
During the winter we use basketball.  The ministry is a national ministry with great
support and material for our coaches and helpers to work with.  Since so many
children are interested in sports, our desire is to capitalize on this passion in
hopes of not only teaching basic skills of sport and fair play, but more importantly
to teach eternal lessons of living for Christ.

Ministry team leader: Jason Zimmerman

Seniors/Happy Hearts Ministry

Mission: To provide an opportunity for fellowship and care among our senior saints

Description: Our seniors are precious to us here at BCC. This ministry allows a
monthly opportunity for this group to gather for a meal or an outing (e.g., Senior’s
Day at Great Lakes Christian College, Christmas tree display at Meijer Gardens,
color tour, etc.).  Since we believe that in order for us to minister to one
another, we must know one another and spend time together.  If you have a heart for
seniors or if you are a senior, plan to join us for our next outing.

Ministry team leaders: Amy Ferris & Chris Schutter

Setup/Teardown Ministry

Mission: To set up our gym/sanctuary for weekly worship.

weekly basis. If you would like to help serve in this behind the scenes way, contact
the office or Dawn Churchill.

Ministry team leaders: Lorrie Gabert

Ushering Ministry

Mission: To enhance the overall worship experience for those new to BCC, as well as
long term members.

Description: We collect offerings, distribute communion, and help those
late to a service find a place to sit. We want to involve as many people in this
area as possible. Both men & women and even young people are encouraged to be
involved in this ministry.

Ministry team leaders: Jeff Anderson & Jon George

Care Group (Adult Small Groups) Ministry

Mission: To develop relationships in small groups that help lead
to maturity in the body of Christ. To help BCC be a church where no one is alone.

Description: Small groups are vital to the ministry here at BCC.  If you want a
deeper level of care, then you need to be in a Care Group.  As a growing church,
there is always need to plug people into small groups to help develop relationships
with others as well as deepen one’s walk with Christ.  If you have an interest in
leading a small group in Bible study, prayer and service, this is the ministry for
you!  We provide the training and the accountability to make sure you do not feel
you are left on your own.

Ministry team leader: Barry Malone

Missions Ministry

Mission: To help the BCC family understand it’s call to “introduce people to Jesus
Christ” not only locally but globally, as well. To oversee the distribution of
missions monies. To make sure our missionaries are doing well & to provide
accountability for their work.

Description: We meet quarterly to distribute money and to discuss the
status of current and/or future missions we support. We hope to develop
more ownership in the BCC family both for the missions we support as well as
missions in general by encouraging short term mission trips (e.g., Honduras,
Mexico).

Ministry team leader: Wayne Zimmerman
